The future of a Bournemouth beachfront arcade remains in limbo, with the west side of Happyland fenced off for some weeks, including the venue’s ice-cream parlour. Bournemouth Borough Council was in discussions with the landlord of Happyland, Meyrick Estate, over the long-term plan for the building earlier this summer. Cllr John Beesley told local media that the “currently under-utilised” site was being analysed for its “viable redevelopment potential” as part of the council’s seafront strategy. Jowell calls for more high street regulation
A group of politicians, including former culture secretary Tessa Jowell, has been piling on the pressure on government during questions in the House of Lords following the publication of the Gambling Commission’s report on underage gambling. The report, published last month, claimed that 450,000 young people were gambling every week and it is the prospect of these children having access to online operators that has caused particular concern in the Lords. In somewhat typically muddled thinking from the politicos, Baroness Jowell noted that there are serious concerns over young people’s access to online gambling.
